About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of San Francisco, Gram Cafe & Pancakes offers an inviting escape for lovers of Japanese-style fluffy pancakes and carefully crafted cafe delights. This cozy yet modern spot has carved out a niche with its signature dishes that transform familiar breakfast staples into extraordinary culinary experiences.

At the heart of Gram Cafe’s menu is their famed Signature Premium Pancake, available in a cool, premium cold version that arrives perfectly paired with a house-made custard base cream. This delicate offering is priced at US$7.06 per piece with an enticing “Buy 4 Get 1 Free” deal, ideal for sharing or indulging on multiple occasions. For those seeking a slightly longer but utterly rewarding wait, the Premium Strawberry pancakes are a must-try. Taking 30 minutes to prepare, these feature a silky strawberry mascarpone Crème Anglaise that’s generously garnished with fresh strawberries and topped with signature double stacks, creating an ambrosial balance of sweetness and texture.

Complementing the pancakes, Gram Cafe’s dessert selection is highlighted by the Matcha Warabi Mochi, a soft and chewy treat dusted with vibrant green matcha powder and drizzled with sweet syrup, offering a harmonious blend of earthy bitterness and natural sweetness that feels both traditional and refreshingly contemporary.

Tea connoisseurs will appreciate the thoughtfully curated hot teas that span delicate blends, including Genmaicha — a blend of green tea and roasted brown rice with nutty and grassy undertones — as well as fragrant options like Peach Momo Green and Lychee Green, each infused with subtle fruity essences that beautifully complement the rich pancake flavors. The Earl Grey and Mango Black teas further expand the variety, catering to both classic and adventurous palates.

The atmosphere here effortlessly combines a modern, cozy vibe with attentive service, creating a welcoming feeling that encourages customers to linger over their meals. Several regulars note that despite the popularity and inevitable wait times—sometimes up to 40 or 50 minutes—each order is prepared fresh to ensure peak quality and flavor, a commitment that truly pays off once the first bite melts on the tongue.

Patrons have praised Gram Cafe for delivering pancakes with a unique texture contrast: a slightly firm, thin exterior encasing an interior so soft and airy it evokes the sensation of biting into a delicate marshmallow or New Zealand pavlova. The whipped cream accompaniments strike just the right balance, enhancing the experience without overpowering the subtle sweetness. While some dishes like the curry rice bento provide flavorful savory options, the pancakes unmistakably steal the spotlight.

Though waitlist management has occasionally been a point of frustration for some diners, the overall consensus affirms Gram Cafe & Pancakes as a standout destination for anyone who craves that perfect fluffy pancake indulgence without having to travel far. It combines superb quality, thoughtful flavor pairings, and an inviting environment, making it a cherished gem in San Francisco’s dynamic cafe scene.

Finally stopped by to try this place. We got there before the dinner crowd. There were tables available when the staff asked us how many. When I said 5 he told me to put my name on the wait list when there was multiple tables of four empty. As we were waiting a party of 4 walks right in and sat down. We heard them say counter or something. Staff didn't offer that to us and we didn't know cause it was our first time. So we waited another 10 or so minutes when another staff saw my dad standing there with his walker the entire time. He said oh go over there and sit while we clean and get table ready, appreciated that. We order and food comes out. The chicken karaage is good, the fried squid was good, fried oysters got mixed reviews, and takoyaki was ok, not enough octopus. I also ordered the ube smoothie which my kid liked. Now on to the entrees that we ordered, two tonkatsu currys, and a curry chicken karaage. The tonkatsu was good and light, not oily but I wish it was a bit larger portion and the curry was really good. The curry chicken karaage was a bigger portion than tonkatsu. We also got strawberry and mango pancake. Overall I think the strawberry was better, probably cause the mango wasn't that ripe. Overall curry entrees were good. Pancakes were better than other places I've been too. Too bad this location is closing, I've been wanting to try and I finally came out to try and glad I did

Finally visited again before they close. The wait time was quite long (at a weekday 1:20pm, had to wait for 40+ min) The curry rice is good, I wish the patty could be juicer but it’s flavorful. The jiggling pancake was nice and soft! I like the sauce and it’s a must to try) Though there are bunch of people, they try to maintain it as a relatively cozy environment :) I am really sad to see them go…according to the staff, they might be moving down South Bay but not in a mall

I have been dying to try a Japanese Fluffy Pancake so I HAD to come here. The atmosphere is just perfect. Staff are super friendly. A bit expensive overall but when very few to none sell this dish - I get it. The wait times are rough, about 50 minutes to get the pancakes. But they are made and delivered TO ORDER to be the peak freshness so, again, I get it. We did order the curry bento box and an appetizer which came much sooner so that was a great way to kill time. Curry - Wow, ok not what we came for but one of the BEST curries I've ever had. Pancakes - Words cannot express, these are. Absolutely. INSANE. Seriously melts in your mouth, just pure fluffy buttery deliciousness. The classic 3 stacker and the crème brûlée were both perfection. I dream about getting a chance to eat these again.

Always wanted to eat fluffy pancakes. I thought I'd have to go to Vegas to get some, but found this wonderful place. Original fluffy pancakes are the best! (so far). I tried many others, but the Strawberry ones tasted a little artificial like those pop stick candy sticks you ate as a child. The available side dishes are really well made. I tried almost all of them. Atmosphere is modern cozy Cafe vibes. I enjoy going to this little hot spot in the mall.

I highly recommend the pancakes. The texture contrast is not my ideal but I can see why it's very popular. The thin outside layer is firm, and most of the inside is very soft and fluffy, like a softer marshmallow or New Zealand pavlova. I very much enjoyed the pancake without much butter or and syrup. The whipped cream on the side was enough to balance out the taste.

This place is great for a small or large afternoon meet up! Ten of us came here for a Sunday afternoon meet up. Ordered a bunch of items. If ordering the premium pancakes you really do have to factor in time. It’s takes quite a long time especially since we ordered about 5 premium cakes. The matcha sauce on the Premium Matcha Creme Brûlée was a little too thick for us and heavy on the matcha side. Matcha lovers might love it but it was too much. We thought the kids would love the Premium strawberry pancake but the sauce proved too much for them as well! Unfortunately we also thought that out of all the cakes the matcha one was a bit undercooked. We liked the Premium Salty Yolk, Original and mixed fruits and chocolate. Oh! The single Oreo and Black Sesame was delicious as well! We also ordered some drinks but they were ok and didn’t wow us. We’ll be back but we need to be sure we build in time for the premium pancakes!

The fluffy pancakes didn't disappoint! Have to order an hour before closing to be able to sit down otherwise take out only. We ordered a couple fluffy pancakes, the curry rice and the French toast. The French toast was blah, the curry was good but not great, but the pancakes, which is what we went for, were great. We had the creme Brule and the strawberry, and would recommend both.
